Build for KODA
Publish your instruments through KODA.
Two lanes. Share a free library with the community, or sell a licensed product through the KODA store. Both start from your KODA account. There is no application form, and nobody at KODA has to approve you before you begin.
What follows is the whole arrangement: how the lanes work, what KODA charges, what we check before a product lists, how you may use the KODA name, and what happens to buyers if KODA ever closes. The contract itself is the Developer Agreement.
01 · How it works
Three states, two of them automatic
| State | How you get there | What it opens |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Sign up at account.kodasampler.com. | Free downloads, the Product Manager, the forum. |
| Developer | Confirm your email and accept the Developer Agreement on your account page. | The community lane, and the developer portal. |
| Verified | In the portal: a developer profile, two-factor on your account, and payouts set up with Stripe. The moment Stripe reports your account can be paid, you're verified. | The Library Packager, the store, $0 listings and your own release dates. |
Verification is automatic. Stripe checks your identity and your bank details on its own form; KODA never sees them. There is nothing to send us and nothing to wait on.
Two-factor authentication is required to set up payouts, and so before verification, and to see or manage the licences your customers hold. The rest of the portal works without it. We recommend turning it on the day you register; a password manager such as Bitwarden or 1Password generates the codes if you would rather not install a phone app. You get ten backup codes when you turn it on. If you lose both, write to support@kodasampler.com and we reset it after checking who you are.
02 · The two lanes
Community libraries and licensed products
| Community lane | Licensed lane | |
|---|---|---|
| Who | Any developer | Verified developers |
| What | Free, ordinary files, no copy protection, no licence key | Licensed libraries, paid or free, open or protected |
| How it gets in | Uploaded on the website | Through the KODA Library Packager, the only way in |
| How buyers get it | Downloaded as files with a KODA account, added to KODA from a folder | Installed and activated through the Product Manager |
| When it publishes | The monthly drop | The monthly drop, or your own dates |
| Fees | None | The Fee Schedule below |
A library is one or the other. A free library you want licensed, so that it installs through the Product Manager and counts as a KODA product, goes through the licensed lane at $0. A protected library is always a licensed product.
03 · Fee Schedule
Fee Schedule
Version 1.0 · effective 28 October 2026
The version in force when an order is placed, or a licence is issued, is the one that applies to it, and it is recorded with that order. Changes come with at least thirty days' notice by email and on this page.
| What | Fee |
|---|---|
| Marketplace sales | 35% of the sale price, with a minimum of $7 and a maximum of $99 per licence sold. Card processing is paid out of it. Nothing else is charged on a marketplace sale. |
| Licences for your own channel | $7 per licence, bought in advance in blocks of 50 and issued as redemption codes. |
| Free licences | 250 a year included. $0.20 per licence after that. |
| Registering, verification, submitting, listing, hosting, updates | No fee. |
Prices
- The minimum list price is $19. A sale price may go as low as $9. A verified developer may also list a product at $0.
- The $7 minimum commission applies to every paid licence, whatever the price. At $19, the marketplace and your own channel cost you the same $7; from $20 up, the marketplace takes 35%.
- A price may change at most once every fourteen days, unless KODA approves a change sooner.
- Your price on KODA is never higher than the same product on your own store or another store.
Payouts
- Payouts run monthly through Stripe, in US dollars, to a Stripe Connect account or to your bank account depending on your country.
- An amount is paid once thirty days have passed since the order.
- Amounts under $50 carry forward to the next run.
History: 1.0, effective 28 October 2026.
04 · Review criteria
What we look at before a product lists
Every submission passes automated checks: format, manifest, naming, duplicate names, missing samples, cover art and metadata. A person looks at your first licensed product, at anything the checks flag, and at any product we choose to look at. Later products from the same account are reviewed by exception.
A product lists when it meets these:
- The instrument plays correctly in the current KODA release on Windows and macOS.
- There are no undisclosed audible faults. Known limitations are stated in the listing.
- The interface assets are the developer's own, or licensed for this use.
- The samples are the developer's to sell, as warranted in the agreement.
- The metadata, cover art and screenshots meet the submission spec and describe the product accurately.
- The product is not a trivial repackaging of a single sample or of someone else's library.
- Nothing in it contains malicious code or hidden network activity.
Review time depends on the size of the queue; under five business days is usual. If we decline a product we say why. You may appeal within fourteen days by writing to support@kodasampler.com, and we answer within fourteen days.
Community libraries pass the automated checks and publish in the next monthly drop. Staff may look at any library by hand, before or after publication. Most are never opened by a person, but any one may be.
05 · Brand guidelines
Using the KODA name
You may say that your product is available on KODA, and use the KODA name and mark for that purpose on your product pages, in your store and in your promotions.
- Use the KODA mark as supplied, in its own colours, not altered, recoloured or combined with another mark.
- Write the name as KODA. "Available on KODA", "Built for KODA" and "Runs in the free KODA sampler" are all fine.
- Do not put KODA in your product's name, your company name or your logo.
- Do not say or imply that KODA endorses your product, or that you are a partner of Koda Sampler, Inc.

06 · Wind-down commitment
If KODA ever closes
We do not plan to close. But a developer putting a catalogue on a platform is owed an answer to the question, so here it is.
- The free KODA sampler never phones home, and a library licence keeps working offline once it has been activated. Nothing a buyer has installed stops working because a server goes away.
- Open products keep working as installed. They are ordinary files.
- Protected products are converted to an open form or re-issued, so that buyers keep what they paid for. Koda holds the content keys for exactly this reason.
- Developers get their own files back, and a final statement and payout of what they are owed, net of refunds and reversals.
- We give developers and buyers notice before any of this happens, by email and on this site.
This commitment is referenced in section 10.5 of the Developer Agreement.
